Bumblebee

while sitting at the table I noticed
a bumblebee flying around the room.
I got up to open a window in order to allow
the bumblebee to fly outside from whence it came
thereby reducing the number of bumblebees
inside the room by one to equal zero.
but as the window opened
the bumblebee inside stayed inside
while another bumblebee from the outside
flew inside through the open window's invitation
increasing the number of bumblebees
in the room by one to equal two.
now, I may be more accommodating to the bumblebee
than the bumblebee is to me
but bumblebees are certainly smarter than I am
in calculating their own crazy arithmetic.

(the idea for "Bumblebee" is derived from
the poem "Arithmetic" by Carl Sandburg)
